No, it's not.

The internet is a completely different arena. There is nothing that says that I can't read your journal if it's public. If you have it friends only or private, then so be it, but by having it public you're making it open to just that: the public. Thus meaning that I'm free to add you and read your public entries.

i dont really care that you added me. you're right, live journal is open to the public. however i can understand how some people might get upset over some random person adding them. for all they know you could be some axe murderer trying to find their next victim.

it is funny how some people react though. i totally agree that if people dont want others reading their journal, they should either put it on friends only, personal or just not bother having an online journal.

I don't ask people first if I'm adding them to my friends list. Sometimes I inform them, but I don't ask. Surely it's a bit sad to go around asking people to give you their blessing to read their public entries?

I don't really get why people are freaking out. Oh well, I suspect there are about a dozen people on my friends list who think I'm a total freak and deserve to go to hell. That would explain why they never added me back. Who knew?

Seriously, it's funny how much of a reaction you're getting out of people for simply adding their name to your friends list.

I mean, common IT'S THE INTERNET. How can people be upset over that? It's not like you're destroying their lives. Geez.

Anyhow, in a way I think it's an interesting idea you got. Makes you realize how easily some people get infuriated over something completely childish.

And I'm pretty damn sure you don't read all of their entries (That would take forever) and EVEN if you did, wow big deal. Their fault for making it public in the first place.

So in conclusion, getting pissed off over someone adding you to their friends list is immature. Grow up. This is only the Internet.

Look, I'm an "add me, I'll add you back" type of person. I don't mind when some people I don't even know add me, the public entries I made were meant to be public and if I want one to myself, I make it private.

However, [info]blackjackrocket is my friend and I won't add nor tolerate someone that has to declare to the "public" that you pwned her.

I see what you're saying, the internet is public and pretty much open to the world but some people make ljs public so its easier for non-lj user friends to see, make it easier for friends so that they always don't have to sign on to read their entry, and they don't expect some stranger prowlin' around internet journals randomly adding everyone.
